The Antiques Fair of Arezzo is the largest of Italy, with its more than 500 exhibitors. First born in the national territory in 1968, from an idea of the famous Arezzo antiquarian Ivan Bruschi, who was inspired by the famous outdoor markets of Portobello in London and by the Flea Market of Paris, is the most known and visited. So in 1968, after years of neglect and marginalization of the upper town, also due to the Second World War, the Fair brings life again also in the Piazza Grande.
From its birth, and then continuously the Antiques Fair is held every first Sunday of the month and the previous Saturday, in the streets of the historic center of Arezzo and in Piazza Grande, also known as Piazza Vasari because framed by The Vasari Arcade, the 16th-Century open gallery designed by Giorgio Vasari.
The visitors of the Fair can take a dip in the past, allowing themselves the pleasure of discovery, in an impressive variety of objects, from various eras. Every edition of the Fair counts on average twenty thousand visitors, collectors, antique dealers, tourists or just curious, who take a stimulating outdoor walk through the stalls in the most characteristic places of the historical city center. On display antiques among the most diverse: furniture, old books, paintings, ceramics, art hardware, art Nouveau windows, antique scientific and professional instruments, watches, silver, jewelry, lace, collections of various kinds, art deco objects and finally modern antiques and various objects.
